Northern Youths blast Zamfara governor for handling of protests
Youths from northern Nigeria, organized under the Coalition of Northern Youths for Peace and Stability (CNYPS), are strongly criticizing Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal for his handling of the ongoing EndBadGovernance protests.
The coalition claims that Governor Lawal is using the protests as a “smokescreen to cover up his administration’s incompetence, corruption, and cluelessness.”
Muhammad Garba Yahaya, the coalition’s spokesperson, told reporters in Abuja on Monday that the governor has failed to tackle the insecurity issues in the state effectively.
They also expressed concern about how the protests in Zamfara were allegedly hijacked by thugs and miscreants under the governor’s watch, leading to violence, looting, and property damage.
“It’s crucial for Governor Lawal to shift his focus to addressing the serious security problems and widespread corruption in Zamfara, rather than using diversionary tactics to hide his administration’s failings,” the coalition said.
They suggested that Lawal should collaborate with all stakeholders to calm the situation and work with President Tinubu on negotiations, while also focusing on improving Zamfara’s deteriorating conditions.
Instead, the coalition believes that Lawal’s current approach is damaging his international reputation for corruption and leading a state with severe insecurity issues.
“This should be his main priority, as his reputation is on the line,” they concluded
