Nollywood filmmaker, Omoni Oboli, shares journey to success
Renowned Nollywood filmmaker, Omoni Oboli, has opened up about the challenges she faced at the beginning of her career, revealing she once gave out her screenplays for free in exchange for acting roles.
In an interview with Radionow 95.3 FM, Oboli shared her experiences, saying, “I was trading my scripts… Just take it, don’t pay me. Just give me a role in the film.” However, after watching the final products, she realized they didn’t align with her vision.
“I write in pictures… when I’m watching the movie, it’s so different,” Oboli explained, acknowledging that no two directors interpret scripts identically.
This epiphany prompted Oboli to take the reins and direct her own films, despite initial apprehensions.
“I wasn’t very confident, but I found the courage to pursue my dreams,” she said, emphasizing the importance of maintaining her artistic DNA.
With a successful career spanning several films, including “Moms at War”, “Last Year Single” (currently streaming on Netflix), and the upcoming “The Uprising: Wives on Strike 3” (premiering in cinemas this October), Oboli has established herself as a respected force in Nollywood.
Her journey serves as a testament to perseverance and the importance of staying true to one’s artistic vision.
