NNPC announces maintenance shutdown of Port Harcourt refinery

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has announced a planned maintenance shutdown of the Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC), set to begin today.

According to a statement issued by Olufemi O. Soneye, Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Ltd, the shutdown will allow for scheduled maintenance and a sustainability assessment of the facility. The move, the company said, is part of efforts to ensure the long-term efficiency and reliability of the refinery.

NNPC Ltd assured that it is working closely with key stakeholders, including the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), to ensure that the shutdown and associated activities are conducted effectively and transparently.

“NNPC Ltd remains steadfast in its commitment to delivering sustainable energy security for Nigeria,” the statement read, adding that regular updates on the progress of the maintenance work will be made available through the corporation’s official channels, including its website and media platforms.

The Port Harcourt Refinery is a key facility in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, and its maintenance is considered crucial to the government’s efforts to revamp local refining capacity and reduce dependence on imported petroleum products.
