Nigerian Army Frees Journalist, Soyombo After Three Days in Custody
The Nigerian Army has released investigative journalist Fisayo Soyombo from detention after a vigorous media campaign pushing for his release, according to the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ).
On Friday, FIJ shared on social media that the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, had held its founder, Fisayo Soyombo, for three days.
“The 6 Division of the Nigerian Army in Port Harcourt has been holding our founder, Fisayo Soyombo, for three days. Journalism should not be treated as a crime,” FIJ stated.
In reaction, the Nigerian Army, represented by the Acting Deputy Director of 6 Division Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Danjuma, clarified that Soyombo was apprehended at an illegal bunkering location.
