Nigeria secures huge $255 million loan from China for big railway project

On Wednesday, January 8, China Development Bank (CDB) announced that it has approved the first part of a $255 million loan to the Nigerian government for its important Kaduna-Kano railway project.

This loan will help fund the construction of the railway, which is a major step in improving transportation in Nigeria.

According to CDB, the railway project is part of the promises made during the third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in 2023.

The bank mentioned that the railway project has been moving forward smoothly and said, “We will work closely with Nigerian partners to make sure the remaining loans are used properly and the project is successful.”

The Kaduna-Kano railway will stretch over 203 kilometers and, once finished, will create a direct rail connection between the cities of Kano and Kaduna.
