NFF reacts to Eguavoen appointment as Super Eagles interim coach
The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has dismissed the news of Super Eagles Technical Director Augustine Eguavoen, as interim coach, labeling it “a joke taken too far”
In a report by The Nations Online, the football body reiterated that there is no plan to hire Eguavoen and that the 58-year-old manager is not in consideration.
Recall that the former Super Eagles manager Jose Peseiro, was in charge until February 29 when his contract expired.
Peseiro led Nigeria to the final of the African Cup of Nations. He lost 2-1 to the hosts Ivory Coast in the final. Nigerians were rightly disappointed.
Eguavoen has been interim manager for the Super Eagles twice before, and permanent manager once from 2005 to 2007.
Several names have been linked with the vacant position aside from Eguaoveon. Enyimba’s NPFL winning coach and Peseiro’s assistant – Finidi George, FIFA U-17 World Cup winner with the Golden Eaglets in 2015 – Emmanuel Amuneke, and Samson Sia Sia the prominent figures linked with the job of taking over the Nigerian national team.
