NDLEA warns cannabis cultivators, drug peddlers in Edo, vows to enforce zero tolerance

On Monday, May 19, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) issued a stern warning to cannabis cultivators, drug peddlers, and users in Edo State, stating that anyone caught engaging in illicit drug activities will face the full force of the law under the Agency’s War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) policy.
This warning came from the newly appointed NDLEA Commander for Edo State, Mitchell Ofoyeju, who recently assumed his position after transferring from the Tincan Island Port in Lagos. Ofoyeju emphasized that his mandate is to combat illicit cannabis cultivation, drug trafficking, and other drug-related crimes within the state.
“The mandate of the Brigadier-General Mohamed Buba Marwa-led administration is to enforce zero tolerance for illicit drug production and trafficking,” Ofoyeju stated. “In total compliance with the operational order, we are cracking down on cannabis cultivators and drug traffickers in the state. We will not watch drug criminals exploit our communities and destroy lives. The drug cartels are warned to quit the criminal act or face imminent arrest and prosecution,” he added.
Commander Ofoyeju expressed enthusiasm for his new role and reinforced the agency’s resolve to tackle drug-related problems, which he highlighted as directly contributing to crime in society. “Drugs are fundamentally connected to criminal activity and pose serious risks to society. As experts in drug control, we have a responsibility to safeguard members of the public, especially the youth, from the harmful consequences of drugs,” he noted.
He emphasized that effective drug control is key to securing the future of young people and reducing crime in the state. “We are committed to advancing the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign initiative of Gen. Buba Marwa through supply control and demand reduction,” Ofoyeju continued.
The NDLEA commander also urged the public to cooperate with the Agency in the fight against drug trafficking and abuse, calling on citizens to lend their support to this critical initiative. “We need the support of all citizens in this all-important fight,” Ofoyeju concluded.
