NDLEA officers nab drug suspect, reject N10m bribe

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) recently made a significant bust, seizing 26.25 million tramadol pills and 508,400 bottles of codeine-based syrup worth N16.68 billion in street value. The operation took place at the Tin Can Port in Lagos and Port Harcourt port, Onne, Rivers State, between October 22 and 23, during a joint examination of watch-listed containers with the Nigeria Customs Service and other security agencies.

A 40-year-old man, Tsolaye Eburajolo, was arrested in connection with the intercepted drugs at the Ago Palace area of Okota, Lagos. What’s remarkable is that NDLEA operatives turned down a N10 million bribe offered to free Eburajolo The agency’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, confirmed that the bribe has been added to the exhibits recovered from the suspect.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has been busy cracking down on drug trafficking in Nigeria. Recently, they made several significant seizures and arrests.

•⁠ ⁠Tramadol Bust: At the Lagos airport, NDLEA operatives seized 2,118 pills of tramadol hidden in 13 pairs of shoes bound for Cyprus on October 12, 2024. The sender, Okenwa Kelvin Uchenna, had an additional 380 tablets found in his Enugu home during a follow-up operation on October 24
•⁠ ⁠Cannabis Recovery: On October 25, NDLEA raided the Igbo-Igunuko shrine at Alfa Beach, Ajah, and recovered 2,760kg of Ghanaian Loud, a cannabis strain. Two suspects, Gbenga Abiodun and Sunday Abiodun, were arrested. Another suspect, Ademola Oyelakin, was caught with 770kg of the same substance along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway
•⁠ ⁠Underground Storage: NDLEA also discovered an underground storage at Muhammad Abdullahi’s residence in Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, containing 11,786 pills of tramadol, molly, Rohypnol, and diazepam, along with 64 bottles of codeine syrup

These seizures and arrests demonstrate the NDLEA’s commitment to combating drug trafficking in Nigeria.
