On Wednesday, October 9, the Nigeria Democratic Front (NDF) made a strong statement promising to expose and take action against elected leaders who may be helping bandits.
This announcement comes as worries about safety in the country continue to grow.
The NDF’s pledge follows serious accusations involving a current member of the National Assembly linked to a well-known bandit named Abubakar Idris. Idris has been involved in many crimes, including banditry and kidnapping, particularly in Zamfara State, and is currently in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).
Ikenna Ellis-Ezenekwe, the National Spokesperson for the NDF, expressed his concerns in a statement to reporters. He called for accountability and quick action, saying that the group will not tolerate any betrayal from elected leaders.
Ellis-Ezenekwe said, “The spiraling insecurity in Nigeria has reached an alarming level, leaving the nation teetering on the brink of collapse. The Nigerian people demand investigation and accountability.”
He highlighted how the allegations against a lawmaker cast doubt on the trustworthiness of the National Assembly and stressed that this serious connection cannot be ignored.
He added, “Allowing a federal lawmaker under investigation to continue in a sensitive security role threatens to undermine efforts to address Nigeria’s security crisis. We demand the immediate suspension of the legislator from sensitive security duties until a thorough investigation is concluded.”
The NDF believes that the Nigerian people deserve to know the truth, and anyone found guilty of wrongdoing should face serious consequences.
