Morata identifies young star Lamine Yamal as potential successor to Messi and Ronaldo

AC Milan striker Álvaro Morata has expressed strong belief that Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal has the potential to be as great as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

For over 15 years, Messi and Ronaldo have dominated the football landscape, collectively winning 13 Ballon d’Or awards. As both legends approach the twilight of their careers—Messi now playing for Inter Miami in the MLS and Ronaldo at Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia—Morata sees Yamal as a future star.

In an interview with The Athletic, Morata remarked, “Every 20 or 30 years, one or two emerge like Cristiano and Messi. For me, Lamine has got everything it takes to make history. I’m convinced that if he doesn’t become the greatest player in Spain’s history, he’ll definitely be one of them.”

Recently, Yamal showcased his talent by finishing 8th in the 2024 Ballon d’Or rankings and winning the Kopa Trophy for the best young player in the world.
