Mercy Chinwo’s ex-manager EeZeeTee gets N20m bail over forex fraud charges

The Federal High Court in Lagos, presided over by Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke, has granted bail to music producer and former manager of gospel singer Mercy Chinwo, Ezekiel Onyedikachi—popularly known as EeZeeTee—in a high-profile $255,000 alleged forex fraud case.

In a ruling delivered on Friday, May 9, Justice Aneke approved a ₦20 million bail with the condition that EeZeeTee must provide one surety who resides in Lagos and owns property valued at the full bail amount. The court gave him 72 hours to meet the terms.

This development follows an amended seven-count charge brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which originally filed 14 counts related to alleged fraudulent conversion of funds.

According to EFCC prosecutor Bilikisu Buhari-Bala, the case centers on a June 2023 transaction in which EeZeeTee allegedly engaged in a $52,895 foreign exchange deal with one Mr. Oladotun Olaobaju Mureke without securing authorization from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

“This act,” she stated, “violates Sections 5 and 29(1)(c) of the Foreign Exchange (Monitoring and Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, Cap F34, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, and is punishable under Section 29(2) of the same Act.”

EeZeeTee has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

The court had earlier released him temporarily to his legal counsel, Ojukwu Chikaosolu, pending fulfillment of the bail condition.

The case has been adjourned to June 20, 2025, for trial proceedings.
