Lilian Afegbai calls out friend for selling wedding aso ebi in dollars

On Wednesday, March 26, Nigerian actress Lilian Afegbai took to Instagram to express her surprise and disapproval after discovering that a friend of hers was selling wedding aso ebi (traditional fabric) in dollars.
Afegbai shared her disbelief in a candid post, revealing that she was stunned to see the price of the fabric listed at $1,200. She was particularly shocked because this was not a foreign wedding, but a wedding in Lagos, Nigeria.
She wrote, “Una Don dey sell aso ebi in dollars for Lagos? You people sell for your own wedding in dollars now? You guys are doing too much.”
In the post, Afegbai shared that a friend had sent her a wedding invitation, and after congratulating her, she decided to check the details. While reviewing the invitation, she was surprised to see the price for the aso ebi listed as $1,200. Initially, she thought the price was in Naira, and wondered if the bride was giving the fabric away as a gift. But after further checking, she saw the dollar sign and was taken aback.
“I decided to convert it, 1200 times 1600. How many millions is that? For your own wedding and your I do? Is it my I do?” she said. “It is not good, everybody should relax. There is life after the wedding.”
Afegbai’s post has sparked a conversation about the increasing cost of weddings in Nigeria and the growing trend of pricing things in dollars, leaving many to wonder if it’s becoming excessive.
