Davido recalls getting snubbed by 50 Cent

Nigerian Afrobeats megastar Davido has opened up about a memorable and somewhat awkward encounter with American rapper 50 Cent, where the G-Unit boss turned down his request for a photo.

Speaking in a recent episode of The Breakfast Club, Davido shared the story of when he was just a teenager in Las Vegas with his family, celebrating his older brother’s 21st birthday. At the time, he was a huge fan of 50 Cent and hoped to capture a moment with his idol. However, when Davido asked for a picture, the rapper bluntly rejected his request.

“I was 14, and my brother was turning 21. My dad took the whole family to Vegas, and I was just sitting in the lobby. I saw Lloyd Banks and took a picture with him because he was my favorite at the time. Then I saw 50 Cent and I went up to him and said, ‘Wow! 50 Cent, I love you. Can I have a picture?’” Davido recalled, adding, “He said, ‘No’ and just walked off.”

Despite the rejection, the story didn’t end there. Years later, when Davido had become a prominent music star in his own right, he reminded 50 Cent of the incident. The rapper’s response was surprising and lighthearted: “You are here now, right?” [Laughs].

In a twist of fate, 50 Cent invited Davido to perform as a surprise guest at his concert at Madison Square Garden in New York. The two are now set to co-headline a concert in London later this year, alongside Mary J. Blige, further solidifying their friendship and professional partnership.

From a rejected photo request to sharing the stage, it’s clear that Davido and 50 Cent’s journey has come full circle.
