Laolu Gbenjo says a world of only gospel music would be boring
Gospel artist Laolu Gbenjo recently shared his thoughts on music diversity, pointing out that if everyone only sang gospel, the world would be pretty dull.
In an interview on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Friday, September 6, Gbenjo emphasized how different types of music are needed for different occasions. For example, love songs are perfect for weddings, while upbeat praise songs are great for celebrations.
“We have to be sincere with ourselves; if everybody sings gospel, the world will be boring. That’s the truth. If anyone is getting married, you don’t expect me to sing gospel all through; there are love songs and celebration praise. It’s just a celebration,” he said.
Gbenjo also talked about how the COVID-19 lockdown sparked a new idea for him—Alujo Special. During the lockdown, he started creating custom songs for people who sent in their photos, recording them in his studio.
He also reflected on his musical journey, mentioning that he was inspired to start singing because his father was a pastor. “I started singing because my father was a pastor,” he added.
