Popular Nigerian actress Laide Bakare has denied allegations that she threw shade at her colleague, Biola Bayo, following news of Bayo’s separation from her husband, Oluseyi.
The controversy began after Bakare posted a video of herself dancing on Instagram with a caption that read:
“All of us will eat breakfast. Asiko lo ma ya to. Good morning people.”
The phrase “eat breakfast” is often used colloquially in Nigeria to refer to experiencing heartbreak or relationship failure. Given the timing — just after Biola Bayo publicly announced her divorce — the post sparked criticism from fans who accused Bakare of mocking her colleague.
However, in a video shared on Friday, Bakare dismissed the accusations, saying the post was purely coincidental and had no connection to Bayo’s personal life.
“Bad commenters and trolls association, something must be wrong with you,” she said. “Please let us all be guided. It is still June 5th here in California to be precise. I can never shade my own sister Biola Bayo. My prayers are with you. I didn’t get any updates. I was busy with my daughter’s graduation. Trolls are evil.”
Bakare emphasized her support for Biola, urging critics to stop spreading negativity.
Biola Bayo had earlier announced her separation from her husband, Oluseyi, on Tuesday, citing irreconcilable issues.
