Lagos taskforce raids drug dens near Gowon Estate, arrests 19 suspects

The Lagos State Taskforce has carried out a major operation targeting criminal hideouts and black spots around Gowon Estate and nearby streets, leading to the arrest of 19 suspects allegedly involved in drug trafficking and other unlawful activities.
During the raid, officers uncovered a large cache of illicit drugs, including Colorado, Indian hemp, narcotics, and other controlled substances. Several bags of hard drugs were also found hidden in the boots of parked vehicles, exposing the depth of criminal activity in the area.
Chairman of the Lagos State Taskforce, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Adetayo Akerele, reaffirmed the agency’s firm stance on eradicating crime, particularly as the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations approach.
“This operation reflects our zero-tolerance policy against illegal activities that threaten the peace and security of the state,” Akerele stated. “All suspects will face the full weight of the law as investigations continue.”
He explained that the raid is part of an ongoing series of targeted enforcement operations designed to maintain public order and environmental sanity across the state. This marks the fifth operation in a series aimed at dismantling drug networks and curbing street-level crime in the area.
Akerele also called on residents to partner with authorities by reporting suspicious activities through the government’s ‘See Something, Say Something’ initiative.
“We remain committed to fostering a safe and secure environment for all citizens,” he said, urging continued public vigilance and cooperation with law enforcement.
The Lagos State Taskforce reiterated its dedication to upholding law and order and ensuring a crime-free society for all residents of the state.
