Delta APC denies Omo-Agege’s recognition as party leader

On Friday, March 7, the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State stated that it has not officially recognized Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, the former Senate President, as the leader of the party in the state.

This statement, issued by Delta APC Publicity Secretary Valentine Onojeghuo, was a direct response to a claim made by the National Publicity Secretary, Barrister Felix Morka, regarding the party leadership in Delta State.

Onojeghuo emphasized that Morka’s statement about Omo-Agege being the leader of the Delta APC was “false and insensitive” to the hard work of other party stakeholders. He said, “Barr. Morka’s unilateral declaration that Senator Omo-Agege is the leader of the APC in Delta State does not reflect the official position of the party.”

He further clarified that the position of “State Party leader” is not mentioned in the APC constitution and cannot be appointed by any individual, including the National Publicity Secretary. He stated, “At the moment, Delta APC has not officially recognized Senator Omo-Agege as the leader of the Party in the State.”

The Delta APC leadership also expressed disappointment over Morka’s attempt to impose a leader without considering the contributions of other stakeholders. Onojeghuo described Morka’s actions as “personal ramblings” that were out of touch with the political realities in the state.

“The leadership of Delta APC remains a collective responsibility, guided by due process and internal democracy,” Onojeghuo added. He warned members not to be misled by Morka’s statement, stressing the importance of unity within the party.

The party also called on the national leadership of the APC to intervene and ensure that such statements, which could cause division and disruption, are not repeated.

“Delta APC remains committed to working in harmony with all stakeholders and the national leadership to strengthen the party,” Onojeghuo concluded.
