Jaywon highlights the need for resilience in the Nigerian music industry

On Monday, March 24, Afrobeats singer Jaywon shared his thoughts on how artists can handle social media trolls, advising them to develop a thick skin. He stated that the Nigerian music industry is not for “the weak” and emphasized the need for resilience in the face of criticism.

Speaking about the challenges faced by top Nigerian artists like Davido, Wizkid, and Burna Boy, Jaywon pointed out that even superstars are frequently trolled online. He explained that any artist who isn’t prepared to handle such criticism may struggle to survive in the industry.

“Some of my colleagues call me to chat about the current state of the industry and how I handle all the ranting and disrespect online. My response is always the same: today’s industry is not for the weak,” Jaywon wrote on his X handle on Sunday.

He continued, “Just look at the level of disrespect thrown at artists like Davido, Wizkid, Burna Boy, and many others on social media. If you’re not prepared, you won’t last. They will always come for you, and the only real escape is to go offline but we can’t do that. This is our life, our craft, and no matter what, we will keep pushing forward!”

Jaywon’s message serves as a reminder that in the world of Nigerian music, perseverance is key, and artists must remain committed to their craft despite the challenges they may face online.
