Ivan Toney stuns fans with England return as Tuchel drops Chalobah bombshell in squad shake-up

In a move few saw coming, Ivan Toney earned a shock recall to Thomas Tuchel’s England squad on Friday, May 23, ahead of the Three Lions’ upcoming matches against Andorra and Senegal.

Toney, 29, last featured for England during the Euro 2024 final loss to Spain. Since then, he has moved from Brentford to Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli in August, and many assumed his international career had quietly closed. But Tuchel, now steering the national team, clearly sees a fresh role for the forward.

Also grabbing headlines is Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah, who received his first senior England call-up—a major milestone in his career and a signal of Tuchel’s intent to bring new energy to the squad.

England will take on Andorra in a World Cup qualifier in Barcelona on Friday, June 7, followed by a friendly against Senegal in Nottingham on Monday, June 10.
