Inter Miami’s Lionel Messi eyes record in FIFA Club World Cup

Inter Miami captain Lionel Messi has the chance to break the record for most FIFA Club World Cup goals when the tournament kicks off this weekend.
The Argentine forward has previously scored five goals in the competition, putting him just two goals shy of the current record held jointly by Cristiano Ronaldo and the late Pelé. Neither Ronaldo nor Pelé will be participating this year.
Messi will lead Inter Miami, one of 32 teams competing in the FIFA Club World Cup’s new format. Inter Miami is placed in Group A alongside Al Ahly, Palmeiras, and FC Porto.
The Herons begin their campaign against Egypt’s Al Ahly on Saturday at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. Messi will be eager to guide his team to victory as he chases this historic milestone.
