Insurgency: Troops smoke out terrorists in Yadi Forest

Troops of the Nigerian Army said it had conducted deep clearance operations into Yadi Forest in Kaduna State on Tuesday and smoked out terrorists hibernating in the remote forest general area, resulting in a significant clampdown on their activities.

In a statement signed by the Director Army Public Relations, Onyema Nwachukwu on Wednesday, explained that during the operation, the Troops encountered an ambush staged by the terrorists, but swiftly responded with a heavy volume of fire, neutralising one of them, while others scattered in disarray.

During the encounter, the Troops said it recovered two Ak 47 Rifles, 6 Ak 47 Magazines, five rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition, 331 rounds of 7.62mm x 54 PKT Machine Gun ammunition, and two PKT Machine Gun ammunition links.

Other items recovered include three Motorbikes, two Power Generating sets, two Desert Camouflage, a pair of Desert boots, Leg and hand chains used for fastening kidnap victims, 9 Baofeng Radios with 9 Chargers, one Talisman vest, an International Passport, two Voter’s cards and two National Identity cards, among other items.

   

According to them, they also destroyed the terrorists’ camps carefully concealed along the river lines.

Authorities said the Troops are still on the trail of the fleeing terrorists to rid the forest of their activities in a renewed effort to restore peace and stability.

The army urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to security agencies, as the Force works together with the people to combat terrorism in the country.
