INEC declares Adeleke winner of Osun governorship election after winning 19 local governments

Incumbent Osun State Governor and Accord Party candidate Ademola Adeleke has been declared winner of the governorship election held on Saturday.
The results were presented by the state’s Returning Officer, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti, Prof. Joshua Ogunwole, at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) collation centre in Osogbo on Sunday. Adeleke won 19 local government areas while the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, won 11.
Adeleke recorded some of his strongest performances in traditional strongholds, including Ede North, Osogbo, Ede South, Iwo and Ife East. In Ede North he polled 35,427 votes against Oyebamiji’s 10,283. In Osogbo the figures were 36,480 to 30,474. Ede South returned 26,188 for Adeleke and 6,219 for Oyebamiji. Iwo gave him 27,085 against 19,660, and Ife East 27,201 against 18,600.
Other councils carried by Adeleke included Ife Central, Ifelodun, Oriade, Egbedore, Odo Otin, Ilesa West, Ila, Ayedaade, Ife North, Orolu, Boluwaduro, Ayedire, Ifedayo and Ejigbo. Oyebamiji led in 11 local government areas, among them Ilesa East, Boripe, Irepodun, Obokun, Atakumosa West, Irewole, Atakumosa East, Isokan, Olaoluwa, Ife South and Olorunda.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) generally recorded significantly lower figures, though it secured 5,053 votes in Ejigbo, its strongest showing among the results supplied.
The declaration confirms a clear majority of local governments for the incumbent. The distribution of those victories, and the size of the margins within them, will form the basis of any subsequent analysis of how the statewide result was built. For now the official record is straightforward: Adeleke has been returned for a second term after winning 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas.
