Imo government denies rumors of IDP camp
On Monday, September 30, the Imo State government clarified that there is no Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp established in the Ehime Mbano Council Area.
Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, addressed the media in Owerri, responding to rumors about the alleged camp. He expressed concern that some individuals were spreading misinformation to create division among the Igbos and other parts of Nigeria.
Emelumba explained that a training facility for skills acquisition programs is being built in Nsu, meant to benefit the people of the South East, not to house individuals from other regions.
He stated, “The source of this misinformation is a known propagandist who has previously spread harmful materials and hate speech. His latest claims aim to incite the Igbos against Northerners, disrupting peace in the country under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
Emelumba criticized the individual, named Uba, for his inflammatory comments, urging security agencies to take action against him for encouraging unrest. He emphasized that the training center in Ehime Mbano is part of a regional initiative and does not involve the relocation of refugees from the North or West.
He urged the people of Ehime Mbano and Imo State to ignore Uba’s calls for conflict with the federal government. The commissioner also highlighted that Uba had previously attempted to misrepresent statements made by Governor Hope Uzodimma to stir unrest.
Emelumba concluded by calling on security agencies to intervene and prevent the situation from escalating into a broader conflict.
