I did not lobby for this job – Bayelsa deputy

The newly inaugurated Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Peter Akpe, has cleared the air regarding his emergence as the second-in-command in the state. He stated categorically that he never lobbied for the position or pressured Governor Douye Diri to select him for the role. This revelation comes amid speculations that various political factions within the state fought hard to influence the governor’s final choice.

A call to service based on merit

The Deputy Governor emphasized that his appointment was an act of God and a result of the governor’s discernment. He noted that he was going about his private business and political duties when the call to serve reached him. According to him, the invitation to join the “Prosperity Administration” was a surprise that he accepted with a deep sense of humility and responsibility.

He told a gathering of supporters that the focus should remain on governance rather than the politics of how he emerged. The new deputy explained that his primary goal is to support the governor in fulfilling the promises made to the people of Bayelsa. He believes that the administration has a unique opportunity to transform the state into an industrial hub within the Niger Delta region.

Loyalty to the governor and the people

The deputy governor pledged his unalloyed loyalty to Governor Douye Diri and the people who entrusted them with their mandate. He promised to work in harmony with the executive council to ensure that development reaches every local government area. By avoiding the pitfalls of internal rivalry, he hopes to create a stable environment for the implementation of critical state policies.

He cautioned political jobbers against trying to create a rift between his office and that of the governor for their selfish gains. The deputy governor maintained that he views his role as a partnership aimed at collective success rather than personal glory. He urged all stakeholders in the state to join hands with the current leadership to foster peace and security across the coastal communities.

Delivering on the prosperity agenda

With the inauguration hurdles now behind him, the deputy governor is set to oversee several key committees and state projects. He expressed a particular interest in youth empowerment and the expansion of the state’s agricultural sector. The new leader believes that creating jobs for the younger generation is the most effective way to curb restiveness in the region.

Bayelsans are watching closely to see how this new partnership will address the pressing issues of infrastructure and environmental degradation. The deputy governor has asked for the prayers and cooperation of all citizens as he begins this new chapter of his career. He concluded by reiterating that his lack of lobbying proves he is in office strictly to serve the interests of the common man.
