House of Representatives asks President Tinubu to send 2025 budget proposal quickly

On Wednesday, October 16, the House of Representatives made an important request to President Bola Tinubu. They want him to send the 2025 budget proposal to the National Assembly without any delay.

This decision came during a meeting when a lawmaker named Clement Jimbo from Akwa Ibom shared his concerns.

He reminded everyone that, according to the Fiscal Responsibility Act 2027, the president needs to submit the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) at least four months before the new financial year starts. The MTEF is a special plan that shows how much money the government expects to earn and spend over the next three years.

Jimbo was worried that the president hadn’t sent the MTEF or the 2025 budget proposal yet. He pointed out that it’s really important for the National Assembly to check how the money is spent.

He encouraged everyone to follow the timelines set by law to make sure the budget gets considered and passed on time.

The lawmakers agreed with Jimbo’s motion by voting, and House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas made sure everyone knew it was passed. They also told their committees on national planning, economic development, appropriation, and finance to make sure everything is done within the next two weeks.
