Gunmen violently kidnap Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Azubuike in Imo
Gunmen have kidnapped Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Azubuike, the parish priest of St. Theresa’s Catholic Parish in Obollo Community, located in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State.
According to church officials, Rev. Fr. Azubuike was abducted on Tuesday, November 5, around 6:00 p.m. while returning from an assignment in the Ayayi community. The priest was reportedly taken by force while on his way home.
The Catholic Diocese of Okigwe confirmed the incident and called for prayers for Fr. Azubuike’s safe return. In a statement signed by the Chancellor/Secretary of the diocese, Very Rev. Fr. Princewill Iwuanyanwu, the diocese appealed to the public to pray for the priest’s safety. The statement said:
“I am directed to inform you that one of our priests, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Azubuike, was kidnapped this evening, Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at about 6 p.m. We solicit your fervent prayers that he may come back to us safe and sound while trusting in your goodwill and solidarity.”
In response to the kidnapping, Henry Okoye, the spokesman for the Imo State police, assured the public that an investigation had begun and that efforts were underway to rescue the kidnapped priest.
Church members and well-wishers have expressed deep concern and are hoping for Fr. Azubuike’s quick and safe return to his parish.
