Grammy 2025: Big category changes announced as nominations list is set to drop

The 2025 Grammy Awards season is officially kicking off today with the announcement of the highly anticipated nomination list! This year, the Recording Academy has made some important changes to the Grammy categories, all in an effort to make the awards more inclusive and reflective of today’s diverse music scene.

In a recent statement, the Academy shared details about the changes, which include the introduction of a new category called Best Dance Pop Recording. This category replaces the previous Best Pop Dance Recording category, and it is part of a larger reshuffling of the awards to better showcase the wide range of music genres and styles out there.

Another significant change involves the Best Remixed Recording category, which has now been moved into the Pop & Dance/Electronic Field. These changes are all about making the Grammys more in tune with how the music industry is changing and ensuring that more artists and musical styles are celebrated.

Harvey Mason Jr., CEO of the Recording Academy, explained that the changes are part of an effort to “empower creators” and support the ongoing evolution of music. He also reminded Grammy voters of the event’s long legacy, saying that the Grammys have been honoring the best in music for 67 years and that “every vote can shape the future of music.”

The road to the Grammy nominations has been a long one, with months of voting and deliberation. The process started back in July 2024 when artists submitted their work, and the first round of voting took place in October. Today’s announcement marks the start of the countdown to the 67th Grammy Awards ceremony, which will take place on Sunday, February 2, 2025, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

In addition to the category updates, the Academy has also made changes to the rules for the Songwriter of the Year category. This year, songwriters will qualify with fewer songs, which means more artists will have the chance to be nominated.

The excitement is building for the Grammy Awards, as artists and fans alike look forward to celebrating the best in music at the start of 2025!
