On Thursday, February 20, 2025, Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State denied rumors that political “godfathers” were controlling his actions as governor.
In an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme, Okpebholo responded to questions about his political background. He explained that it was God who used some people to help him achieve his goal of becoming governor, not any political figures behind the scenes.
“Can you even point out one godfather who was pushing me?” he asked.
He continued, “God was using people to help me, to support me, to get to where I am today.”
