Governor Adeleke celebrates the potential of persons with disabilities on World Disabilities Day
On Tuesday, December 3, 2024, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State emphasized that persons with disabilities (PWDs) have the ability to excel, despite the challenges they face. He made this statement while speaking at an event marking this year’s World Disabilities Day, held at Osogbo Grammar School.
World Disabilities Day, observed annually on December 3rd as recognized by the United Nations, was the focus of the event. Governor Adeleke, represented by his Special Adviser on Special Needs, Kamil Aransi, praised the resilience, creativity, and potential of PWDs in Osun State.
Adeleke highlighted the state government’s commitment to empowering PWDs through policy reforms, advocacy, and empowerment programs. Speaking on the theme, “Amplifying the Leadership of Persons with Disability for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future,” he urged that PWDs be included in all areas of life.
He stressed that persons with disabilities should not be defined by their challenges but by their strength, creativity, and potential. “Across Osun State and beyond, we see PWDs excelling in arts, sports, education, governance, and entrepreneurship, proving that disability is not inability,” he said.
