Funke Akindele slams Air Peace over stranded passengers in London

Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has criticised Air Peace airline after she and several passengers were left stranded at London Gatwick Airport over delays and poor communication.
Akindele raised the complaint on Friday via her official X handle, saying passengers had been stranded since 6:30 a.m. without adequate updates or support from the airline.
She said elderly passengers were among those affected and described the situation as distressing, alleging that travellers were left hungry, exhausted, and without access to their luggage.
“Air Peace, this is unacceptable. Passengers (including elderly people) have been stranded since 6:30 AM at London Gatwick Airport with no proper communication,” she wrote.
She added that passengers were initially informed of a bird strike and promised hotel accommodation, but hours later, no arrangements had been made.
“After hours of delay, we were told there was a bird strike and promised a hotel. Hours later, people are still sitting at baggage claim hungry, exhausted and without their bags,” she added.
Akindele later urged the airline to release passengers’ luggage and provide the promised hotel accommodation, insisting that immediate action was needed.
“Release passengers’ luggage immediately and provide the hotel you promised. Do something NOW,” she wrote.
In response, Air Peace expressed regret over the incident, attributing the delay to operational challenges beyond its control.
“Dear Funke, we sincerely empathise with you over this experience and all inconveniences this has caused to your travel plans,” the airline said, adding that it was working to assist affected passengers.
However, in a follow-up post, Akindele said the situation had not improved, alleging that by around 4 p.m. passengers were still stranded without luggage, accommodation, or clear communication from the airline.
