Former Russian coach Byshovets compares Nigeria’s Super Eagles to Germany ahead of friendly

Anatoly Byshovets, former manager of the Russian national team, has drawn a striking comparison between Nigeria and Germany ahead of Russia’s friendly against Nigeria in Moscow this Friday.

Speaking to Sport-Express, the 79-year-old said the Nigerian team reminded him of Germany but in an “African version,” highlighting their style of power football.

“I can say as a coach who led the USSR team against Nigeria that this is a team that’s associated with the Germany team, only in an African version,” Byshovets said. “They play power football and the winner is the one who wins in single combats.”

He also noted that the match would be a valuable experience for Russia’s players and praised the work of Russian head coach Valery Karpin, despite the challenges of awaiting official matches.

Notably, Nigeria will be without several key players for the game, including Alex Iwobi, Samuel Chukwueze, Ola Aina, Victor Osimhen, and Ademola Lookman.
