FG to focus on food security and climate action, says Tinubu’s aide
The Federal Government (FG) is making food security and climate action top priorities under President Bola Tinubu, according to his Special Assistant on Climate Change Matters, Yusuf Kailani. Kailani shared this during a high-level dialogue on the impact of floods in Abuja on Wednesday, August 28.
He explained, “The President is very concerned about climate change and is leading efforts to tackle it. We’re bringing in experts to keep our initiatives on track and working closely with stakeholders to reach our climate goals. Governance is an ongoing task, and we can’t do it alone. As Nigeria gears up for COP29, we have many activities planned to highlight our progress globally.”
Earlier, Sulaimon Arigbabu, Executive Secretary of HEDA Resource Centre, pointed out that climate change is a real issue affecting many Nigerians, especially in rural communities and among vulnerable farmers. He noted that when farmers suffer from climate impacts, it threatens both food and national security.
“But with the right information and knowledge, we can help people become more resilient to climate change,” he said.
Arigbabu also highlighted the importance of early warnings from the Nigeria Meteorological Agency and the National Emergency Management Agency to help communities prepare for climate-related challenges.
