EPL: Emmanuel Petit frustrated with Martinelli, urges Arsenal to sign three key players
Former Arsenal star Emmanuel Petit has expressed frustration with Gabriel Martinelli’s performances this season and has urged the club to make three key signings during the January transfer window.
Petit highlighted the need for a striker, left-winger, and attacking midfielder to bolster Arsenal’s squad as they struggle to maintain the consistency that saw them compete with Manchester City for the Premier League title in recent seasons.
Under manager Mikel Arteta, Arsenal have dropped points in nine of their 20 league games and currently trail Liverpool by six points, with the Reds having a game in hand.
“Arsenal don’t just need a striker; I think they needed at least three or four more players last summer,” Petit told DisCasino. “They still need a left-winger, a striker, and an attacking midfielder.”
He also acknowledged the challenges of the January transfer market, noting it will be difficult to secure good players at reasonable prices. Petit suggested that Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford could be an intriguing addition for Arsenal.
“I’m very frustrated with Gabriel Martinelli’s performances at the moment,” Petit added. “He’s very inconsistent, and it’s annoying to watch. He’s been like a ghost on the pitch.”
Petit stressed the importance of competition for places in the starting lineup, pointing to the quality of Liverpool’s bench as an example of the strength in depth that Arsenal needs to aim for.
