Elton John discusses ongoing struggle with eye infection

Legendary British singer Sir Elton John has shared details about his ongoing battle with an eye infection, which has significantly impacted his vision.

In a personal statement released on Wednesday, September 4, the 77-year-old revealed that the infection has resulted in “limited vision” in one of his eyes. He noted that the recovery process has been notably slow.

John’s statement read in part: “I’ve been dealing with a severe eye infection that has unfortunately left me with only limited vision in one eye. I am healing, but it’s an extremely slow process and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye.”

Despite the challenges, John expressed optimism about his progress, stating he is “feeling positive about the progress I have made in healing and recovery thus far.”

A few months prior, John announced his retirement from touring. His farewell tour, which concluded in early 2023, grossed $939 million (£749 million) across 328 shows, setting a record as the highest-grossing music tour in history until Taylor Swift’s ‘Eras’ tour surpassed it with $1 billion in earnings.
