EFCC warns Nigerians about fake TikTok accounts trying to scam users

On Thursday, February 27, 2025, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) issued a warning to Nigerians about fraudsters using fake TikTok accounts to scam people. The scammers held a live session on TikTok, using the EFCC’s logo to trick unsuspecting users.
The EFCC explained that these criminals created six fake accounts with names that sound official but are completely made up. Some of the fake accounts included “EFCC of Nigeria,” “EFCC Lagos,” “EFCC Delta,” “EFCC of Benin,” “EFCC of Jos,” and “EFCC Saga.” These accounts were designed to create confusion and gather personal information from victims.
In a statement signed by Dele Oyewale, the EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, the agency made it clear that it does not have an official TikTok account. The EFCC urged everyone to ignore and report any social media accounts that claim to represent them on TikTok or any other platform.
EFCC reminded the public to stay cautious and avoid falling for scams online.
