Edo Assembly recalls suspended lawmakers
The Edo House of Assembly has announced the return of two suspended lawmakers, Donald Okogbe and Adeh Isibor, after a five-month period.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the assembly initially suspended Donald Okogbe (PDP-Akoko-Edo II), Adeh Isibor (APC-Esan North-East I), and Bright Iyamu (Orhionmwon South) on May 6, due to an alleged plan to impeach the Speaker and other key officials.
However, Bright Iyamu was recalled in June after showing remorse, as stated by Speaker Blessing Agbebaku.
During the assembly’s plenary session in Benin on Wednesday, October 2, Speaker Agbebaku confirmed the decision to bring back Okogbe and Isibor from suspension. He also congratulated the newly elected governor, Monday Okpebholo, on his recent victory in the governorship election.
Agbebaku emphasized that the governor-elect is for all Edo people, not just members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and expressed hope that he would not be misled by those seeking personal gain.
As the lawmakers returned from their extended recess, Agbebaku thanked them for their dedication in ensuring the passage of important bills and resolutions. During the session, the assembly also approved a calendar for 57 sitting days for the second quarter of its current session.
