Edo Assembly approves N485bn revised budget for Okpebholo’s government

On Monday, November 18, 2024, the Edo State House of Assembly passed a revised supplementary budget of N485 billion for the administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo.

The new budget, which was approved during a plenary session, is aimed at supporting ongoing developmental projects in the state and ensuring the new governor can continue important work that benefits the people of Edo. Speaker of the House, Blessing Agbebaku, explained that the revised budget would allow Governor Okpebholo’s government to carry forward key development initiatives.

The budget includes N283.087 billion allocated for capital expenditures, such as infrastructure and development projects, while N202.54 billion is earmarked for recurrent expenditures, which covers the day-to-day running of the government.

Additionally, during the session, Dr. Cyril Oshiomhole was confirmed as the state’s new Commissioner for Health.

This revised budget follows several earlier adjustments made by the House. On May 22, 2024, the House had approved a supplementary budget of N409.2 billion for the administration of the former governor, Godwin Obaseki. Less than five months earlier, the House had approved a N342.8 billion budget for 2024, which was an increase from the initial N321.4 billion presented by Obaseki.

In August 2024, just a month before the governorship elections, the House had also approved a N450 billion revised supplementary budget for Obaseki. The N485 billion budget passed for Okpebholo’s government is N36 billion higher than the one approved for Obaseki.

With the new budget now in place, Governor Okpebholo’s administration is set to continue implementing its plans for the state’s growth and development.
