Don’t abandon politicians when they’re no longer in office – Wike to churches

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), admonished churches against neglecting politicians after they have left office.

Wike said this in St. Mark’s Anglican Church, Port Harcourt at the birthday celebration of Kingsley Ogundu Chinda, the House of Representatives Minority Leader, on Sunday, March 24.

He stated that politicians often contribute to churches during their time in office, but the churches often turn their backs on them when they leave office.

Wike also charged the clergy to practice what they preach, urging that they should pray ceaselessly for the political class.

“The church should also remain steadfast; the church should also not abandon people when they’re no longer in office. When most of us were in office, there was no church we weren’t contributing to. But immediately we left office, it was a different story.

“You, as agents of God, must show that you’re practicing what you preach. It’s not only politicians. Always be there for us; pray for us; don’t change,” Wike said

Tajudeen Abass, the Speaker of the House, also spoke at the event. He hailed Chinda’s contributions to the lower chamber, describing him as one of the best products in the National Assembly.

“Honorable Kingsley Chinda remains one of the best products in the National Assembly, and ever since he stepped into the NASS, he has been giving Rivers State very good representation,” Abass said.
