Deputy speaker optimistic of political solution to secure Nnamdi Kanu’s release

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has expressed confidence that the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, could be freed through political means, following his life imprisonment sentence by a Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday.
Kalu said all hope for Kanu’s release is not lost and stressed that a political approach is now being pursued to secure his freedom. He expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu would be receptive to appeals from well-meaning Igbo leaders regarding the matter.
“It is now time to explore political solutions that had been hindered because the matter was before the court. But now that the court has finished, it is time to intensify request for the President’s intervention and we are sure that the President is not averse to it. We are going to get it. All hope is not lost. Our people should remain calm,” Kalu said.
The Deputy Speaker urged the people of the South East and all Nigerians to remain calm, assuring them that efforts are underway to seek a resolution through political channels.
