Dele Momodu dumps PDP for ADC, cites hijack by anti-democratic forces

Veteran journalist and publisher of Ovation magazine, Dele Momodu, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing the takeover of the PDP by “anti-democratic forces.”

In a resignation letter dated July 17, 2025, and addressed to the Chairman of PDP Ward 4 in Ihievbe, Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State, Momodu announced his immediate exit from the party. He revealed plans to join the opposition coalition under the ADC to challenge President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general election.

“My reason is simple and straightforward,” Momodu wrote. “Our party has been unarguably hijacked by antidemocratic forces, from within and outside, in broad daylight.”

He added that his decision was in response to what he described as the collapse of internal democracy within the PDP, stating: “It is, therefore, honourable to abandon the carcass of the party to them while the majority of us earnestly sign up with the new coalition party known as the African Democratic Congress (ADC).”

Momodu, who has long been active in political commentary and previously contested for the presidency, is expected to play a major role in the emerging coalition seeking to reshape Nigeria’s opposition landscape ahead of 2027.
