Cundy expresses sympathy for Maresca’s decision regarding Chelsea star
Former Chelsea defender Jasson Cundy has commented on Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s performance during Chelsea’s 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United in the EFL Cup on Wednesday, October 30.
Cundy noted that Dewsbury-Hall had little impact in the unconventional right wing position he was assigned.
The Blues were eliminated from the tournament at St. James’ Park, and Cundy, who provided commentary for the match, felt that Dewsbury-Hall appeared uncomfortable playing out wide. “Dewsbury-Hall doesn’t look comfortable out on the right; we’ve hardly got him involved,” he remarked (via The Chelsea Chronicle).
Dewsbury-Hall played for 57 minutes, managing two shots, two successful dribbles, and just one touch in the opposition box before being substituted for Noni Madueke in the second half.
Cundy emphasized the challenges of playing a central midfielder in a wing role, saying, “Madueke is on for Dewsbury-Hall. We’ve now got a natural player on that right-hand side. This will give Chelsea a much more attacking threat from both flanks. I’ve felt for him. It’s asking a central midfielder to play out wide right. It’s not his day job.”
