On Thursday, March 20, 2025, Irish fighter Conor McGregor made a big announcement: he’s running for president of Ireland!
McGregor shared the news in a post on Instagram, wearing the “Make Ireland Great Again” hat he received during a visit to the White House.
In the photo, the 36-year-old athlete stood in front of a private jet, wearing a vest and holding one of his four children.
The announcement came just three days after former US President Donald Trump called McGregor his “favourite Irishman” during a visit to the Oval Office.
McGregor wrote: “The next presidential election must take place by 11 Nov 2025. Who else will stand up to the Government and oppose this bill? Any other presidential candidate they attempt to put forward will be of no resistance to them. I will! This is the future of Ireland with me as President.”
The 2025 Irish presidential election is set to happen by November 11.
