Church cancels wedding last-minute after bride refuses key tradition

A wedding that was supposed to take place over the weekend at Assemblies of God Church, Okpu 2, in Aba, Abia State, was suddenly cancelled by the church after the bride reportedly didn’t follow some of the church’s required steps before marriage.
According to people close to the situation, the bride was expected to spend the night before the wedding at the church’s parsonage, where she would have received special counseling from the wife of the priest who was meant to conduct the ceremony. This is part of the church’s regular process before any wedding.
Another part of the tradition, according to church rules, involved taking a pregnancy test before the wedding day. Sources say the bride had been clearly told about these requirements and had agreed to them earlier, but when the time came, she didn’t show up the night before her big day.
Because of this, the church leaders made the decision to cancel the ceremony.
Promise Uzoma Okoro, who shared details of the incident, said, “The bride’s refusal to stay at the parsonage, as required, prompted church authorities to cancel the wedding.”
He also revealed that guests had already gathered at the church when they were surprised by the announcement that the wedding would no longer take place. Many people who had traveled from far away left feeling disappointed and confused.
It is not yet clear if the couple found another pastor or church to perform the wedding elsewhere, and no official statement has been released by either the church or the couple as of now.
