Chef Dammy opens up on struggles after fame from cook-a-thon attempt

Nigerian chef, Damilola Adeparusi, popularly known as Chef Dammy, has spoken about the difficult journey that followed her sudden rise to fame during her 2023 cook-a-thon attempt.
In an interview with Instablog9ja, Chef Dammy revealed that she never anticipated the event would attract such wide attention. “Even the cook-a-thon, I didn’t know it was going to be viral. I didn’t even tell my parents about it; they just saw me. I was shocked to see myself on social media,” she said.
However, she disclosed that the fame came with challenges, including cyberbullying and emotional struggles. “If you had asked me this question two years ago or a year ago, I might be crying. But now I’m happy I can talk about this without crying,” she said.
The chef admitted that beyond online criticism, she faced real-life bullying and assaults. “I was bullied, I was assaulted. I was broken. Social media broke me,” she recounted.
Despite the challenges, Chef Dammy is currently pursuing professional culinary training at the Hospitality Business School in Lagos, focusing on building her career in the food industry.
