Florida Governor DeSantis announces launch of state DOGE task force

On Monday, February 24, 2025, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis unveiled plans to establish a state-level task force modeled after the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, created by former U.S. President Donald Trump.

Trump had initially founded DOGE and appointed billionaire Elon Musk to lead the agency, which was tasked with modernizing federal technology and software to improve government efficiency.

During a press conference in Tampa, DeSantis explained: “We are creating a state DOGE task force that will implement a multi-pronged approach to eliminating bureaucratic bloat and modernizing our state government to best serve the people of Florida in the years ahead.”

DeSantis emphasized that while the Florida task force will operate similarly to the federal DOGE, it will have a one-year term and will be dissolved once its mission is complete.

This move makes Florida the latest state to replicate the White House’s DOGE initiative, aiming to improve government operations and productivity.
