Benue: Abba Moro focuses on squabbles, not governance – ACCT

On Friday, March 7, the Alia Consolidation Core Team (ACCT) sharply criticized Senator Abba Moro, accusing him of prioritizing political conflicts over genuine governance in Benue State.
In a statement signed by the group’s Secretary, Comrade Didacus Secivir Iorver, the ACCT condemned Moro’s interference in Benue State’s affairs while ignoring critical issues within his own party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
The ACCT labeled Moro’s selective activism as a self-serving strategy that undermines both democratic principles and the integrity of the PDP. “Senator Abba Moro’s bigotry is glaring as he continues to play the role of a self-appointed moral arbiter while calmly turning a blind eye to abuses against his own party,” the statement read.
The group particularly criticized Moro’s outspoken involvement in the affairs of the Benue State House of Assembly, where he criticized the removal of the Chief Judge and the suspension of 13 assembly members. They accused Moro of thriving on conflict rather than genuine concern for governance, questioning whether his actions were driven by a desire for justice, political vendettas, or merely a way to boost his political profile.
In contrast, the ACCT highlighted Moro’s silence regarding the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, a fellow member of the PDP. They pointed out the “double standard” in Moro’s approach, saying that while he was quick to speak out against perceived injustices in Benue, he remained silent when a fellow party member was subjected to similar actions.
“The ruthless retribution against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, stripping her of entitlements and privileges without just cause, is a blatant assault on democratic principles and the rights of elected representatives,” the statement said.
The ACCT argued that Moro’s failure to speak out on this issue weakened the PDP and undermined the integrity of the Senate, accusing him of prioritizing political convenience over justice. The group warned that Moro’s behavior could alienate both party members and constituents who expect leaders to stand firm against injustice, regardless of political affiliations.
“It is time for Sen. Moro to choose integrity over opportunism and hold himself accountable to the very principles he claims to represent,” the statement concluded.
