Bent advises Arsenal to avoid signing Guler, claims he won’t fit in squad
Former England striker Darren Bent has urged Arsenal to abandon their interest in signing Real Madrid star Arda Guler, claiming the Turkish international wouldn’t improve the Gunners’ midfield and would struggle to fit into their current setup.
Guler, who joined Real Madrid from Fenerbahce in July 2023, has been hailed as one of Europe’s brightest young midfield talents. Despite his potential, the 19-year-old has found opportunities limited at the Spanish giants, sparking rumors of a move to the Premier League.
However, speaking on talkSPORT’s Insider Gooners podcast on Monday, November 25, Bent dismissed the idea of a move to Arsenal, suggesting that Guler wouldn’t add much to their squad. “Not for me. You want a grade out of five? I will say one,” Bent said.
“He won’t fit the squad. I think he’s a very good player, I saw him at the Euros, very talented. But will you swap one bench for another? At Real Madrid he’s not getting the opportunities. Coming to Arsenal, there are better options, be it out wide or in the No.10 role.”
Bent concluded, “I can’t see that one happening. Good player, but not for Arsenal, no,” urging the North London club to look elsewhere for midfield reinforcements.
