Bashir laments inordinate ambition of politicians

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has attributed the crisis currently affecting the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the unchecked ambitions of politicians and a lack of proper coordination within the party.

Senator Ajibola Bashir, the APC National Secretary, made this statement on Wednesday in Abuja while officially welcoming Hon. Nicholas Ossai, a former member of the PDP, to the APC at the party’s national secretariat.

Bashir criticized the PDP, describing it as a “dilapidated structure” that can no longer be trusted to lead the country. He said, “Of all political parties in Nigeria, our party continues to wax stronger, and you see opposition parties, particularly the Peoples Democratic Party, are in serious crisis occasioned by inordinate ambitions and lack of proper coordination.”

He further questioned, “Can Nigerians trust a party that cannot even put its house in order to rule the country? So, thank you for abandoning that already dilapidated structure.”

After his meeting with Bashir, Ossai, who previously represented Ndokwa East/Ndokwa West/Ukwuani of Delta State under the PDP, expressed his dissatisfaction with the state of the PDP, stating, “The umbrella has broken, the center cannot hold. You don’t play party politics when the head is sick.”

Ossai added, “I have come to be part of the teamwork of APC that is already shaping Nigeria. PDP today has broken. You ask a question: why is it not fixed? Because the center cannot hold.”

He also revealed his commitment to working with APC leadership at the grassroots level, expressing confidence that the party would take over Delta State in the 2027 elections. “To start with, APC will take over the House of Assembly in my local government, which I will produce, and by His grace, APC will take over my federal constituency where I have spent 12 years,” he concluded.
