Ballon d’Or 2025: Organisers reveal nominee announcement date

France Football, the organisers of the Ballon d’Or, have officially announced that the list of nominees for the 2025 edition will be unveiled on August 7.

The announcement was made via the organisation’s official X (formerly Twitter) account. As is tradition, the list will feature 30 nominees, from which the winner will be selected and revealed at a ceremony scheduled for September 22.

Last year’s winner, Manchester City midfielder Rodri, claimed the award ahead of Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr. However, the Spanish international may miss out on this year’s shortlist due to a long-term injury that has sidelined him for most of the season.

This year, players from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Barcelona are expected to dominate the nominations after both clubs enjoyed successful campaigns. PSG clinched the UEFA Champions League title, while Barcelona secured a domestic treble, winning La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup.

Expected names on the shortlist include:

  • Ousmane Dembélé

  • Lamine Yamal

  • Raphinha

  • Mohamed Salah

  • Kylian Mbappé

  • Robert Lewandowski

As anticipation builds, fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see which stars make the cut for football’s most prestigious individual honour.
