Ayra Starr becomes first African female to reach 5m followers on Spotify

Nigerian singer Ayra Starr has set a new record for African artists on the streaming platform Spotify.

On Tuesday, July 1, 2025, the ‘Rush’ crooner surpassed 5 million followers, making her the first African female artist to reach this milestone.

Despite this achievement, Ayra Starr still trails Tems on the list of most streamed African female artists on Spotify.

Ayra Starr has accumulated a total of 2.7 billion streams across all her credits, while Tems leads with 3.8 billion streams.

Her most streamed song on Spotify is “Santa,” which has been played over 707 million times. Meanwhile, her most streamed lead single, “Rush,” has more than 474 million streams on the platform.
